Musharraf enjoying London on taxpayers’ cost

LONDON: Security of the former Pakistani military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf has been costing the British Taxpayers a whopping sum of £25000 a day. The Metropolitan Police Specialist Protection Unit, known as SO1, has assigned a round-the-clock team of at least ten men and women to protect Mr Musharraf, who lives in a three-bedroom flat in West London.
Mr Musharraf has been staying here in London for about four months and is said to enjoy dining at the Dorchester Hotel and playing golf. Times Online reported that although he pays for a small team of retired Pakistani commandos to protect him, the decision to provide further security was taken at a meeting of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee held at the Home Office.
Those present would have included a representative from the Metropolitan Police, the Army, a private secretary to the Queen, heads of security for Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, as well as members of the intelligence services and civil servants representing the Home Office and Cabinet Office.
The unit is responsible for the personal protection of the Prime Minister, former prime ministers, certain government ministers, some ambassadors and “high-profile persons considered to be under threat from terrorist attack in the UK”. The costs are thought to include the provision of a car, plus security equipment such as alarms and closed-circuit television cameras fitted to his flat. SO1 is providing the security detail.
Over the years Britain has been home to dissidents, dictators and princes, many of whom have had protection provided by the Government. General Augusto Pinochet, the Chilean dictator, lived in London and Surrey in 1998 when detained on an extradition charge during a stopover in London. He was given protection at the State’s expense.
Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was in exile in London from 1998 to 2007 after being ousted from office, while Nawaz Sharif, another former Pakistani Prime Minister, was in exile in London from 2006 to 2008. It is not known whether they received security from the Met. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, lived in London from 2006 to 2008 after a coup in his home country.
Meanwhile, Labour’s Lord Nazeer Ahmed has urged the government to withdraw security perks of a dictator whom he is planning to prosecute for ‘war crimes’.
“Our pensioners don’t get security, so how can we pay for an old general who wants to enjoy himself in London?” said Lord Ahmed, adding ‘I also believe if he remains in this country, he is a threat to peace and public order.”
According to Daily Mail, Lord Ahmed has also written to Home Secretary Alan Johnson to ask him to distance the Government from the controversial figure. In the letter, he wrote: ‘I would strongly urge the Government to distance themselves from Mr Musharraf and his political ambitions here as I firmly believe that any perceived promotion or assistance of his activities here may have an adverse impact on community cohesion within the United Kingdom.”

na chak shehzad farm house mein rahay,na west london flat mein ,na dorchester hotel mein, phir kahan jaay musharaf..
His ultimate abode will be the feet of Shah Abdullah of Saudi Arabia … Lord Ahmed wont let him staying here while America has already said he’s now history … I suspect Khadim-e-harmain sharifan will take care of him for dealing with the only female leader of the Islamic world
But why only Musharraf be held accountable? It was the institution of Pakistan Army from where he drew power; and not only he Ayub, Zia, Aslam Beg and Waheed Kakarr were also powered by the GHQ. If justice Iftikhar is a person sincere to the cause of justice then he must hold trial of all the generals who violated their oath and abrogated the constitution.
Musharraf should heed Mushahid Hussain’s advice. Addressing a press conference in Karachi the other day he advised Musharraf to stay in London and listen music. He was commenting on his plans to jump the political arena in November this year.
apney mulk me rahty howy moot aati ha kia inko
i hate him
I hate him. This A**h**e is living in the most expensive area of London. He sucked the blood of poor people and now he enjoying his life. The UK should send him back and the courts in Pakistan should hang him.
Musharraf violated his oath and abrogated constitution assisted by lt gen(r) usmani, gen(r) aziz and lt gen(r) mahmood on 12 october 1999 and conquered Pakistan by force of the gun (army. Again on November 2007 musharraf abrogated the constitution 2nd time and jailed the chief justice of pakistan, 60 judges of the superior court along with their children. all this by force and without any written or legal orders. musharraf and his associates clearly violated the constitution to which he admitted himself over television that he has done ”extra constitutional” measures just to safe his skin and to force him for presidential election in uniform which he or any such person could not do in in pakistan or any part or law of the world.
musharraf has committed a crime under article 6 of the constitution which is described as ”high treason”. the article says, ” any person who abrogates or conspired abrogate, subverts or attempts to subvert the constitution by use of force or show of force or by other unconstitutional means shall be guilty of high treason. the act promulgated under this article naming high treason act 0f 1973 provides at least death penalty for this crime.
undoubtedly musharraf and his associates have committed this crime of high treason and are guilty of high treason. they must be prosecuted in the court of law and must be punished so no one ever could dare to follow this path of abrogation of constitution bu use of force and throwing away of constitutional civil democratic governments.
the british government should respect democratic principles and should not in any case encourage or protect the culprit of high treason in pakistan. despite spending 25000 sterling daily on his security he should be expelled from britain to uphold democratic principles and rule of law.
This man is da MOST HATED PERSON in da Whole WORLD…….I SIMPLY hate mushraf……Hell is Waitin 4 U……………….!
Hyder’s foregoing comment (of 12 september) on trial of Ayub,Zia,Aslam Beg, Waheed Kakar and GHQ along with Gen Musharraf is not correct because it would detract the issue of trial under article 6 and high treason act 1973 of those who violated their oath and abrogated constitution. Article 6 pin points that violator of constitution and his associates could be tried for high treason. Aslam Beg and Kakar did not abrogated the constitution and thus are not violators of the conatitution’s article 6. Ayub, Yahya and Zia’s violations had been indemnified by Zulfikar Bhutto and Mohammad Khan Junejo’s Parliaments through constitutional cover. 17th amendment of 2004 had covered up Musharraf’s initial-still disputed take over. And now only abrogation of constitution through emergency plus of 3rd november 2007 has been declared unconstitutional and unforgiveable by Supreme Court on 31 July 2009. Also 18 February 2008′s elected Parliamentarians have not only refused to indemnify Gen Musharraf’s abrogation of constitution but all political parties in Parliament, civil society, lawyers and media as a whole have also struggled through streets against Musharraf’s rule and actions.
This is a very simple way and only person left to be tried now for high treason is Gen(r) Musharraf alongwith his associates (if any).
In my analysis this is a very clear writing on the wall that Gen(r) Musharraf would be tried for crime under high treason act for abrogation of constitution soon.
This is an historic compulsion for Pakistai nation which should have to be carried out without any reservation and delay.
Peoples of paksitan are busy in politics of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari, Now they forgot the story of pervaiz Musharraf.
musharraf, zia, ayub, … does it matter? all loved by the west. all brought temporary relief. all had no vision for the future and all set to de track Pakistan from the track of Quaid’s vision and road of democracy.
